Remembering September 11th
« on: Sat, September 11, 2004, 11:18 AM »
I remember exactly where I was on this date 3 years ago. I was sitting at home, watching the local Fox station's morning show. They were teaching you how to make bananas flambe (kinda ironic considering what happened) and suddenly they interrupted and said they had breaking news out of New York and switched to the broadcast from a New York City TV station. As I watched, at first I thought it was just a terrible accident. However, once I saw the second plane turn sharply and crash full-speed into the second tower, I knew this was no accident. At that point I was in a daze, unsure of what had just happened, and not sure what to think. It was really hard for me to understand how something like this could happen. I didn't know why someone would purposely crash a fully-loaded jet into one of the tallest buildings in the world. I felt sorry for all those people who were affected by this and was really wondering how the president would handle it, realizing it must have been extremely difficult for him. He had only been on the job for about 8 months and now this happened. Looking back, I am comforted knowing that this country is now much safer than it was then, and that the President has shown the terrorists that this kind of thing will not be tolerated. As you go about your day, keep this event in your prayers. Pray for all the families who lost loved ones on this date. Pray for the firefighters and police officers who were affected by this event. There is a lovely tribute at http://www.september-11th.us/Silent-Night.html (that site is pretty neat if you get a chance to look around). Even though it's been 3 years since this event, it's something I will never forget.

I remember where I was... we were in our 8th grade History class with Mr. Fry. We were all working on our work, and Mr. Fry was sitting at his computer watching the news on some news website. We were silent, and all of a sudden he said "quick class come here" so we all gathered around his little Mac computer on his desk, and started watching. We didn't exactly know what was going on, and like you we only thought that it was just an airplane that got off course and went into the building. Mr. Fry explained it all to us, and we all had mixed reactions. Some kids were crying, some were cracking jokes, and some didn't really respond at all. All day we were watching the news in the library and in classes that had TVs/computers. Of course we didn't do any work that day, and when I got home we continued to watch the news. You know, this is kind of like a new version of "Where were you the day that Kennedy got shot?" Everybody will remember it and know exactly what they were doing. It was a terrible thing that happened, and yet some good came out of it. For a while after it happened, people were brought together. It didn't matter no matter how different you were, together we stood as Americans. We will always remember what happend on September 11, and my heart goes out to the family and friends and people who were affected on that terrible day.

i know where i was too. i was just getting out of bed and getting ready to go to a doctor's appointment with my mom. she had the TV in the kitchen on and i was eating breakfast when the flaming tower came on the TV. i wasn't sure what was going until mom told me, and then after she told me what was going on the second plane hit the other tower. i just kept thinking why someone would do that. we were kinda in a hurry so we didn't really catch much else until we went to Wal-mart after the appointment. all the TV's in Wal-mart were showing what was going on and tons of people were gathering around and watching. all of us saw the towers fall and we saw all these people just running for their lives. it kinda scared me a bit cause i kept thinking if they could do that in New York, DC, and PA, then what's to stop them from doing that where i live. after that, mom and i just went back to the car and just kept slient. we weren't sure what was gonna happen after all this, so we pretty much just kept praying that Bush would find a way to put this to an end. i tell ya one thing, if one of my loved ones was killed that day, i have no idea how i'd go on. i have great sympathy fer those people who lost loved ones that day. that was very depressing, but i'm thankful that nothing that extreme has happened since then. i sure hope and pray that nothing like that will happen again.

I was in 8th grade when it happened. I remember coming out of lunch and my friend Maura told me and the girls I sit with that a plane crashed into the first tower. In our Algebra class, she told me about the second plane. For most of the rest of the day at school and once i got home, the tv was on. I remember my stomach and heart was so heavy, I didn't know whether to puke or cry. Watching the planes hit was horrible.
One of the teachers at the jr high I went to was good friends with a family in New Jersey who's father died in one of the towers. Our school cut out and hung six thousand stars, one for each victim. We then sold every single one for a dollar each and gave the money to the family. It was so cool to see my school come together like that during such a time of tragedy.
